Previously, the university had to outsource the clinical experience of postgraduate students, who needed to undertake supervised patient treatment as part of their Masters degree and CPD programmes. With an inevitable shortage of suitable training placements amongst local dental practices, this put pressure on clinical resources and drove up the cost of external chair rentals, not to mention increasing many students' travel time.
Now, as one of few universities nationally to boast its own on-campus dental clinic, we are fully equipped to give postgraduate students direct access to practical experience in high-end dental work, within the institution. Dental hygienists, nurses and technicians are also able to secure invaluable hands-on experience at the same location as they undertake their CPD studies. Already more than 250 chair days required for existing MSc courses have been transferred into the clinic and there is capacity for many more as new CPD and advanced degree courses are developed. So if you are considering part-time postgraduate dental training and CPD, we can offer an extremely attractive education and clinical experience package.
